This is my first encounter with Robert Hood’s Monobox alias. And it’s great. Hood is, of course, one of the founding fathers of minimal techno, and you can definitely see that here, but it’s quite a bit more banging than, say, Minimal Nation. Resident Advisor call it ‘big room techno’, and I have no reason to doubt them, although it’s so long since I’ve been in a big room (what, like, with… people in it?) that I’m a bit vague on such things. What I do know is that it has a lovely bouncing energy, and some killer riffs, and (for example) the twinkly thing on the eponymous closing track makes my world a slightly better place.
I bought this on Bandcamp.
