William Basinski: Cascade (CD, 2062, April 2015)

This record isn’t exactly going to be a surprise to anyone who knows Basinski. It’s basically three or four bars of a simple piano melody, looped and recorded and re-recorded and allowed to decay, so that the interplay of the imperfections slowly builds. This is less monumental and less freighted with meaning than my last encounter with him, the box set re-release of The Disintegration Loops. But allow yourself to be absorbed into this it’s a mesmerizing 40 minutes — and, frankly, a surprise in this context would be quite unwelcome.

I bought this from Boomkat. They call it Modern Classical / Ambient.
