I’m pretty sure this (Owens fourth album, and the first since her eponymous debut that I’ve shelled out for) isn’t the classiest thing I’ve been listening to recently. Resident Advisor, say, were decidedly sniffy about it. Well, nuts to it. From the cheery trance of the opening track, Dark Angel, to the strings-and-piano electro-folk of the closing Trust and Desire, via bouncy acid, plinking IDM, and swirling dream pop, I find this delightful. Okay, so not every track is super memorable, but even the frothiest moments are entertaining, and there are enough genuine bangers and swoon-worthy ballads to get a solid thumbs up from me. Also, it is honestly and uncynically uplifting, and bog knows we all need that sometimes, amiright?
I bought this from the artist’s bandcamp page.
