Caterina Barbieri is a firm favourite of mine. Her contributions to this are instantly recognizable, all cascading loops of lovely analogue synth. There is a split between fast-mode Barbieri and slow-mode Barbieri, in Patterns Of Consciousness terms. It’s good stuff.
Bendik Giske is new to me, and I have to say that, while jazzy saxophone isn’t always my thing, this pairing is very compelling. Sometimes the synth dominates, and the sax seems to float across it; sometimes the sax takes the lead; sometimes they are elegantly balanced. Giske’s technical ability in matching the dense runs of notes in fast-mode is impressive — but this isn’t show-offy virtuosity for the sake of it, this is some deep sonic world-building stuff. The effect is hypnotic and transporting and just the thing to raise your mind above the cares of the world.
I bought this from Barbieri’s bandcamp page.
